Intervally (“the app”, “we”, “us”) is an interval timer for iPhone and Apple Watch. You build your workouts on iPhone, run them on either device, and look back on them on iPhone. It is built to be private: we do not collect, store, or share any personal data, and we have no servers to send it to.
The short version
- No account. You never sign up or give us your name, email, or any personal details.
- Your presets stay on your Apple Watch and iPhone, and your workouts in Apple Health if you allow it.
- Your iPhone and Apple Watch sync your presets directly with each other, through Apple’s own connection between them. No server is involved.
- Nothing leaves your device to us. Intervally has no servers, no analytics, and no ads.
Apple Health
Intervally asks for permission to use Apple Health. This is optional: if you decline, the timer works fully and alerts you with notifications instead.
If you allow it, Intervally, on whichever device runs the workout:
- Saves each completed interval workout to Health as a workout, with each work and rest interval recorded as its own segment, so it appears in the Fitness app and counts toward your Activity rings. Each workout also records the name of the preset you ran and how many rounds it was planned for, and each interval you renamed records the name and icon you gave it. A workout you end early is not saved.
- Reads your heart rate, to show it on screen during a workout on Apple Watch, and your active energy, which Health uses to calculate the workout’s totals.
Intervally on iPhone also has a History screen, which is optional too. If you connect it to Health, it reads the interval workouts Intervally saved on either device, with their heart rate and active energy, to show each session and each interval.
Health data is read and written only on your device, through Apple’s HealthKit. It is never sent to us or to anyone else, is never used for advertising or marketing, and is never sold. You can change or revoke this access at any time in the Health settings on your iPhone or Apple Watch.
Syncing between your devices
When you create, edit, reorder or delete a preset, or choose which one your watch starts next, the change is sent from one of your devices to the other through Apple’s WatchConnectivity, which connects an iPhone to the Apple Watch paired with it. Only your presets are sent, never your Health data, and they never pass through a server of ours.
Sounds and the Lock Screen
During a workout on iPhone, Intervally plays a tone at each interval change and, with Intervally Pro, speaks the interval’s name. The countdown appears on your Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island as a Live Activity. All of this is made and shown on your iPhone: the app never uses the microphone, and no part of a Live Activity comes from a server.
Notifications
If you allow notifications, Intervally schedules alerts for each interval change when it can’t mark the change itself, for example when Health access is off and the app is not on screen. These are created and delivered entirely on your device.
Data stored on your device
Your saved presets are stored locally on your Apple Watch and on your iPhone, along with your sound settings. While a workout is running, its progress is stored on the device running it, so it can pick up where it was if the app is closed. On the watch it is also shared with the Intervally complication through an app group on that same device, so the complication can show the interval you are on. We never see this data and cannot access it.
Siri and Shortcuts
You can start a workout with Siri, the Shortcuts app, or a Control Center button. These requests are handled by Apple and simply open Intervally; we receive nothing.
Intervally Pro
Intervally Pro is a one-time in-app purchase, bought on your iPhone or your Apple Watch. Apple handles the payment and tells the app only whether Pro is unlocked. We never receive your payment details, your Apple Account, or anything else about you. You can restore a purchase in Settings on your iPhone, or on the Intervally Pro screen on either device, and ask Apple for a refund from Settings > Request a Refund on your iPhone or at reportaproblem.apple.com.
No tracking, no ads
Intervally contains no advertising and performs no tracking. We do not use the advertising identifier (IDFA), we do not use analytics, and we do not share any data with third parties.
What we do not do
- We do not collect or sell your data.
- We do not collect your name, email, contacts, photos, or location.
- We show no ads and use no third-party trackers.
- The app makes no network calls to us.
Children
Intervally collects no data from anyone, including children under 13.
